Vango, a three-year-old dog, belongs to Mr. White. Every evening Mr. White takes him
for a walk.
One Tuesday evening they started out on their walk as usual. After a while Vango
wandered off by himself. Mr. White was not very worried, for he knew that Vango
could find his way back home. However soon it was night and still there was no sign
of Vango. “Something must have happened to him.” Mr. White thought, and he sent his
servant out to search for the dog.
The servant went round the whole neighborhood calling for Vango, but he was not able
to find the dog.
They did not know that Vango was trapped on a cliff at Youth Park. Earlier he had
slipped and fallen down the twenty-meter high cliff. He got wedged in a crack and was
unable to move. The dog barked to attract attention, but no one heard him.
Mr. White did not receive news of his pet until Friday afternoon. “My gardener told
me he heard that a dog was trapped on a cliff at Youth Park.” he said. “I went there at
once and saw poor Vango on the cliff. I telephoned the fire-brigade. They were unable
to rescue Vango as it was already dark.”
The next morning some firemen managed to pull the dog up with the help of ropes.
Vango was very weak after his experience and no wonder! For three days he had no
food, water or shelter. However, he managed to bark his thanks to his rescuers.
Mr. White was very glad to have his pet back. “In the future I’ll make sure I keep an
eye on Vango when we go for our evening strolls.” he said.
