Save energy, save money, and save our Earth

We all know that a school uses a lot of energy per day. But when you are told how much

a school needs to pay for electricity used in a month, your jaw will drop. According to
a survey, a school may need to pay up to $100,000 a month for electricity. That amount
of money can be used to help many people in need! But how can you save energy? Read
on to learn the following tips:

                    ● Cooling: Close all windows and the door when the air conditioner is on. Block the
sun with blinds in order to avoid overheating the classroom. Use ceiling fans instead
of air conditioners if it is not too hot.
                    ● Lighting: Schools should use energy-saving light bulbs. These light bulbs can give

out the same amount of light with less energy. They could also consider using motion-
detector lights in toilets and 2-way switches for staircase lighting. In that way, the
lights are off when no one is using the facilities.
                    ● Computers: When your school computers are not in active use, make sure controls
are set so they will go into the ‘sleep’ mode. Remember, screen savers don’t save
                      energy-only the sleep mode does.

Time and again, students should check whether all appliances are off when not in use.
Lighting alone accounts for nearly 50% of the electricity bill in most schools. There’s
no reason to leave lights on if a room is empty. Students should also turn off monitors
that would not be used for the next class period.

Let’s use less and save more, and more importantly, save our Earth!
