Colour is a powerful tool. We say a lot of about ourselves by the colours we use.
For example, many office workers like to wear black, blue or grey clothes to
work. These less eye-catching colours help the wearers to look more business-
like and serious in their workplace. Likewise, people who wear bright, strong
colours like to be noticed. That is why these colours are very popular with

                         movie stars and singers.

Colour can affect our feelings. Manufacturers know this and use colours to sell
their products. Air-fresheners are packaged in green cans to give a feeling of
freshness and cleanliness. Fabric softeners are in soft colours to make them
seem even softer. Gold and silver give a feeling of luxury. Therefore, expensive
chocolates and wines are often wrapped in gold and silver foil.

Colour has been known to encourage people to work harder in the workplace.

Production increased when a factory owner painted the walls in warm bright
colours and the restroom walls in a sharp green. This uncomfortable shade made
people leave the washroom to return to their machines in a hurry!

In our daily life, the colour message is so strong that we sometimes identify a
colour with certain names and products. We know that the bright yellow and red
package contains Kodak Film. Similarly, we can spot a big yellow ‘M’ though

the fastfood shop is half a street away.
